As part of our committment to the
places we visit we don’t believe in
sending guides from the US, who visit but a few times a year tours.
Whether we operate the tour ourselves, are using a small local outfitter
or a large coach tour or cruise company with an international presence,
the guides will be local. In-country guides were there yesterday,
are there today, and will be there tomorrow, because they live there.
On our own tours we tend to use different guides in different parts
of a country, for the same reason - they know their local patch
best. But once again, this is not always the rule. If we feel the
tour is better with the same guide throughout, that’s what
we’ll do, using additional local guides as we go. This approach
invariably means good guides, locally-based, who know and love their
patch, and want to show it to you. Most of the larger companies,
such as the coach tours, will have the same guide or hostess throughout,
but even they will often utilize local experience for excursions.
